On October 28, 2013 County Executive Charlie Dooley officially announced the creation of the Spanish Lake Community Development Corporation (SL-CDC) at the Spanish Lake Community Association Town Hall event, in which over 100 residents attended.
The Spanish Lake Community Association, Spanish Lake residents, the St. Louis County Office of Community Development (OCD), St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, and Christian Hospital have been working hard to create a community based organization that will support the needs of the Spanish Lake area.
It has finally come!
The Spanish Lake Community Development Corporation, a much needed organization has been formed in Spanish Lake, MO. It is currently searching for its first Executive Director! SL-CDC is temporarily housed at Christian Hospital, thanks to a donation of this space.
SL-CDC’s goal is to stabilize the Spanish Lake area of North St. Louis County. SL-CDC’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and to increase the socially and economically healthy living environments in Spanish Lake. It will do this by promoting and engaging in neighborhood improvement projects and other related activities, including the provision of decent, safe and sanitary housing that is affordable to residents.
SL-CDC will bring a focused effort of community development to Spanish Lake. It will implement community engagement programs, create new collaborations that can leverage existing community resources, raise funds for housing programs and other improvement projects that will stabilize the area; and it will promote Spanish Lake as a great place to live, work and play!
The Spanish Lake Community Development Corporation is the long awaited catalyst that will assist in community engagement to bring the visions of the residents of Spanish Lake to the forefront, which will result in a stronger Spanish Lake and improve the surrounding communities. SL-CDC is a much needed resource that will be a partner with the community.
